The story of Stjørdal’s new cultural centre has been going on since the 1990’s, but the plans did not take shape until the design competition in 2010, won by Reiulf Ramstad, Lusparken and JSTArkitekter. The brief is comprehensive: library, youth club, performance spaces, three cinemas, workshops, rehearsal rooms, as well as a 300 sq.m. church and a hotel. And all of this needed to be combined into one complex that also related to the surrounding town.

One of the main elements of the new building is a spiral stair, which connects all levels. The main space is the 555-seat concert hall. The adjoining culture school and rehearsal facilities have double walls for acoustic separation, and the building also contains office space for about 50 people on the top floor.
